Expository paragraph

La tempestad
Prospero =   is one of Shakespeare’s more enigmatic protagonists. He is a sympathetic character in that he was wronged by his usurping brother, but his absolute power over the other characters and his overwrought speeches make him difficult to like.
Caliban = Prospero’s dark, earthy slave, frequently referred to as a monster by the other characters, Caliban is the son of a witch-hag and the only real native of the island to appear in the play. He is an extremely complex figure, and he mirrors or parodies several other characters in the play.
Shadows = They explained with detail the events that occurred to the characters, for example when the ship wrecked.
Analyze the characters in relation to;
Religion = I can assume that since they used magic they can be categorized in black or good magic. Prospero for example could be portrayed as a God but of darkness.
Oppression = We can see the oppression in Caliban and Miranda since they both were oppressed by Prospero.
Freedom = Caliban is related to this theme since it was all that he wanted.

Analyze the following questions
1 – Caliban has many speeches within the play. What effect do these speeches have on your perception of the character?
When the caliban is fed up with Prospero and tells him that he has learn his language but it feels like a curse to him. Caliban feels oppressed by Prospero and wants to be free.
2- How does Miranda character change over the course of the play?
At first Miranda its very young and pure, and then the isolation her life has forced upon her has made her mistake for “brave”.
3- Through the eyes of Trinculo and Stephano, how do the envision the island potential?
They were drunk and didn’t knew any better, they wanted to become kings.
4- How did Dr. Isel Rodriguez use the limited resources of her bare stage to create a sense of realism?
Dr. Rodriguez used music instruments to recreate the sounds of the ocean and nature to make believe that you were actually there.
5- Give your opinion of the play
I really enjoyed it because it wasn’t boring or very long. The actors were really prepared and the resource very well used.

6- Mention one theme, what character represents it, and explain why.

I choose Caliban as oppression. He was ruled by Prospero and had to do everything he said and if he didn’t he would be punish terribly.

                                                 Chinese folk Tale

while, until, after, when, whenever, as soon as
The night is clear, and you can see shadows on the moon. According to an old Chinese folktale, they are the shadows of the cinnamon tree in the moon. This tree came to be because of the laziness of an immortal, Wu Kang.
Wu Kang was in charge of guarding the dragon. However, he was lazy. While he drank wine he often allowed he dragon to run away. One day, he went to Mount K’un Lun. While he was there, he met some of his friends. They began to drink, compose poems, and throw dice. He continued to drink, even after night came. He drank some more until finally, he became completely tipsy.  When he saw some fellows playing chess, he asked to join them. They advised him to go home because they knew he was being negligent, but Wu Kang offered to wager the dragon’s pearl. They played a few moves of the game until Wu Kang lost the pearl. After he wagered and lost the dragon pearl, immediately, he wagered and lost the mighty dragon. As soon as the Immortals learned of the loss, they were furious. They immediately sowed a pearl in the ground and a tall cinnamon tree grew from it. The tree reached a great height. After that, they gave Wu Kang an axe and told him to cut off the branches. Whenever he had cut off all the branches bigger ones sprouted and grew. Wu Kang had to cut them off too. Wu Kang is still there to this day cutting off branches. Now, whenever you see shadows on the moon, you will know that they are branches of cinnamon tree falling down.
